Thanks for the recommendation. I haven't heard of that book but it sounds positively enlightening. I look forward to getting that...(not to hijack thread, but thanks!)
i've always wanted to ask this question to those that have decided to leave the organization.. what will you do when the great tribulation begins?.
right now folks, a lot is happening in the political world.. gordon brown (prime miniter of england) last week gave a speech to the un stating that it is time for the un to step in and solve the world's problems, (specifically mentioning the economy and hunger crisis worldwide.).
barrack obama is shaping up to be the next president, a fellow who sure knows how to persuade and lead great crowds.

The only one that comes to my mind is "the soul that is sinning, it itself will die". I used to know exactly where that was - Ezekiel 18:4 I think(?) not sure now. But that can be interpreted to just reiterate what was said in the Garden of Eden, that the outcome of sin is death....
I don't recall the one you are talking about - you could search the exact scripture at Bible Online - they have a keyword search....
isnt that what they always say????
isnt that the hype they are giving this meeting change crap sunday too??
and they say its soooo big that every congregation around the world will hear it simultaneously!!!!
So true - all sizzle, NO STEAK!

Malkiel:
Just before Jesus expired, he said "Father, into your hands I entrust my SPIRIT". I too have lost a dear family member, and I take great comfort in the fact that their spirit has gone back to the Creator. I no longer wait for a resurrection, because they are already in Jehovah's hands...Interestingly, Stephen commended his spirit to Jesus. See Acts 7:59 "While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, "LordJesus, receive my spirit." Just something to ponder.
I was where you are at about 5 years ago and then I started READING, voraciously reading everything in sight that had to do with the Bible, the formation of its canon, early Christian history, and the history of the religion variously known as the International Bible Students, Russellites, Watch Tower Society, Jehovah's Witnesses, Jehovah's Christian Witnesses, and a rumored new name change to come sometime soon. It was a wild ride, but it is well worth it. Your eyes 'will be opened' as per Genesis - knowing both the good and the bad. While you attend the Kingdom Hall, you will hear nothing but the GOOD about the religion. There is much BAD and that is what you will find out once you truly investigate. You are a searching individual, and as Jesus said, "Seek, and you shall find."
Welcome to the forum. We are glad to have you with us!
if i were still in, i would find it hard to be excited about going to the book study now that i know it is doomed.
the revelation book has already been hashed to death.
the silly five finger death grip illustration doesn't apply any more.
If I was still in, I know this would be a HUGE wake-up call for myself and my family ... I would immediately CEASE attending, figuring if it was going to be amalgamated, what on earth would an 8-month delay in effecting that amalgamation be all about? The price of gas reason could have something to do with it, but again, the price is already high now, why leave it another 8 months to take effect? I'd start cutting back RIGHT AWAY!
loving and forgiving are a huge component of jesus' message to his disciples.. in answer to the question as to how many times forgiveness should be offered to an offender, jesus gave the reply, "seventy (times) seven.
" (variously interpreted as either 77 times or a multiple of 70 times 7).. an example is given of a man who owed a considerable sum of money whose debt was forgiven.
this man failed to forgive a much smaller debt owed to him.
Easyreader 1970:
I have been reading The Control of Biblical Meaning: Canon as Semiotic Mechanism by George Aichele - what this book does is deconstruct the conventional presentation of the Christian Bible as an expression of a single truth or meaning. The author distinguishes between the "canon" and text. There really is a great gulf between Jesus and Paul and once you look at the Bible as a 'construct' as opposed to a divinely revealed and inspired entity as a whole, you can see the blatant contradictions that all churches, including the JWs have to somehow integrate into their theology. I hope that makes sense - I am not at all good at passing this information on further but Jesus wrote only in the sand and we don't know what words they were. Paul did a TON OF WRITING and that's what we're left with. It really boggles the mind -
there were already a few topics and posts about the motifs behind the changes, but i think we can unite them all in just one topic.. for a start i will say thar the letter that is going to be read next weekend, says that gb wants to reduce the burden (quotes acts 15:28), and adds that in many countries the gas (petroleum) is at a very high cost for some families.
then it makes a suggestion to use the same day for study at home with family.. of course that the text of hebrew 10:25 is not quoted!
- if we are more close to the end it should be taken the opposite measure!.
JWR:
Thanks for all your information. Don't let Minimus put you off....many of us here aren't second-guessing your contributions. And you don't have to reveal anything you don't want to. I, for one, am all ears. Any more tidbits, not about yourself, but about planned 'adjustments' in the future? Looking forward to hearing much more from you!
In conclusion, this new meeting arrangement really means that the organization is functioning as poorly as a clogged crapper at a Home Book Study location bathroom. The Holy Spirit is helpless to assist the R&F to afford gasoline. The book studies are so poorly attended, poorly conducted, and the books so poorly written, that they're trying to get rid of the Book Study arrangement without actually getting rid of the Book Study. Also, it means that they realise that the Theocraptic Misery Stool sucks and the Serve Us Meating blows.
B the X:
Your posts are (mostly) screamingly hilarious! I'm dying here! But, I think you've hit the nail on the head. This is a real indication of how this so-called religion is GOING DOWN THE TOILET.
anyone understand why this announcement is being made eight (8) months before it actually takes effect?
if i was still 'active' i'd figure, hell, why not forget about attending immediately.
can you imagine the morale as the dubs shuffle off to the remaining 32 book studies in living memory?
Seeker 4 - thanks for clearing that up. Don't know why I thought it was being eliminated...just got carried away with the euphoria of one less meeting I guess...although now that I think of it, they could be doing it piecemeal, and announce on January 1, 2009 that eight (8) months hence, in AUTUMN of 2009 (memories of AUTUMN, 1914 anyone?), there will be no more book study. With people's memories being so short, they could be doing things this way so that the shock on the oldtimers is not too great. Just rambling, creatively speculating.... who knows what these guys have up their sleeve?
well, our local needs talk was a bit out of the ordinary - normally it's something mundane like improving bible studies.. after harping on about the good things the congregation is doing, we got to the meat.. there are 100 publishers in the cong - 40% of them are irregular meeting attenders.. the elder said that those who are irregular at meetings are also irregular on field service.. he also said the elders would continue to shepherd these ones, yet most of us never get as shepherding call.. he said that those who've lost their joy feel this way because they don't fellowship often enough and lack appreciation for sacred things.. there are those who are liberal, manifest an independent spirit and have worldly associations.. he even said that those who need to hear this counsel are those who are missing.. .
oh well.
i suppose it's good news..
I'm actually proud to be counted among the 40% stat! The remaining 60% should be joining us soon, if continued foul-ups from Headquarters continue on apace...
